Amidst the beating of ‘magula bera’, President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared Siri Vajiraramaya as a Sacred Area on Sunday, 6 September 2009 by unveiling a plaque at an impressive ceremony held at the temple premises.
Handing over of Aktha Pathra to the New Mahanayaka of Amarapura Sri Dharmarakshitha Nikaya Most Ven. Thirikunamale Aananda thero was held at the Sri Vajiragnana Buddhist Center in Maharagama Sunday (04th of May 2014) evening under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya Most Ven. Davuldena Sri Gnanissara thero handed over the Aktha Pathra to the New Mahanayaka thera after which the president offered felicitation poojas to the new Mahanayaka thera.
Maha Sangha including the President of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Sangha Council Most Ven.Dodampahala Chandrasiri Thera, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Susil Premajayantha, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Deputy Minister M.K.D.S.Gunawardena, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Chief Justice Mohan Peiris and a large crowd were present.
